Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd President of the United States Benjamin Harrison had a successful career as an attorney before his presidency, his big case, representing the Republic of Venezuela against the United Kingdom. Harrison signed the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 into law, which would set the framework for checking corporations for faulty business practices. During his presidency Harrison appointed Frederick Douglass, as ambassador to Haiti, and supported bills that promoted African American voting rights.
